A rug is rarely the loudest element in a room. Yet the right one changes everything. For Luke Irwin, the rug has always been more than a surface. It is an architectural element in its own right; one that can alter the way a space is experienced.
THE COLLABORATION
One brings the eye. One brings the hand.
For more than two decades, Luke Irwin has built an archive of rugs for some of the world's most considered interiors, developing a language of colour, texture, scale and pattern along the way. In Mirzapur, Obeetee has worked with Indian weaving communities since 1920, carrying forward a century of knowledge held in the loom, the knot and the hand.
Combined, the result is not a reproduction of an archive, nor a traditional Indian rug reinterpreted for the sake of it. It is a new language, created between two places.
THE COLLECTION

CAPSULE I — AN INDIA STORY
Tiger heraldry, redrawn by a modern hand.
Facing tigers, potted palms and sun-discs emerge across fields of Mirzapur ochre, familiar without being literal, historical without being nostalgic. Designed to soften with age, not simply fade.
CAPSULE II — THE MARINE STORY
Coral, current, constellation.
Feathered palms and tidal pinks drift across a deep marine field. Pattern behaves like water: never still, never the same twice, always returning to the same shore.
CAPSULE III — DENIM
Warp, weft, indigo memory.
Horizontal bands of worn blue and sand, as if a favourite cloth had been scaled to the floor. A study in texture and restraint, made to be lived on, not looked at from a distance.
CAPSULE IV — NEW MOSAIC & METALLURGY
Earth, gold, mosaic light.
Mottled grounds and metallic glints, like tesserae set by hand. A quieter luxury: mineral, warm, and built to catch the hour of the day.
MATERIAL

A Luke Irwin design does not arrive at Mirzapur as a finished idea. It changes in the hands of the weaver. Colour deepens. Texture emerges. A line becomes a knot. A drawing becomes pile.
