Project Overview

By Lakshay Saini

Rayika Khemani’s home in YO Villas, Pune, is a thoughtfully designed space that leans into minimalism, material honesty, and tonal harmony. From the start, her brief was clear-she wanted rugs that aligned with her contemporary aesthetic, supported the architecture of the home, and visually tied together the existing palette of neutral furniture and organic finishes.

There was no space for ornamentation for ornamentation’s sake. The rugs had to bring a sense of calm, softness, and structure, without overpowering the rooms they lived in. It was a project that called for restraint, balance, and an eye for detail.

The Ask

Rayika approached Obeetee with a
vision rooted in comfort and quiet luxury. She was looking for pieces that
would layer beautifully into her space-neutral and earthy in tone, textured
enough to add depth, and clean in design. Each carpet had to serve a function-either
anchoring a key furniture layout or enhancing the material transitions within a
room.

 Her preferred colour story featured
soft greys, browns, greens, and hints of blue-tones that could respond well to
daylight and tie in with her upholstery, art, and architectural finishes. There
was no need for custom design; the request was to select from existing
collections with the right curation and styling support.

Obeetee’s Role

Obeetee’s involvement was more than
transactional-it was deeply consultative. Our design team curated a selection
of rugs from our existing hand-knotted and hand-tufted collections, and
tailored presentations around the client’s preferences. These were shared both
digitally and in person, with the added advantage of in-home trials that
allowed the client to experience how the rugs looked and felt within the space
itself.

This service-first approach allowed
for quicker decisions and gave Rayika the confidence that every piece would
work holistically with her interiors. The team also advised on size, placement,
and function-ensuring that each carpet was not just a décor element but part of
the spatial narrative.

Design & Materiality

Two hand-knotted rugs were chosen for
the main living spaces- areas where durability, finish, and texture mattered
most. Their fine craftsmanship added quiet luxury, while silk accents in the
weave subtly caught the light. The remaining three rugs were hand-tufted- ideal
for less high-traffic zones but equally rich in look and feel.

The colours across all five rugs
stayed within a natural, grounded palette- muted greens, slate greys, soft
browns, and a touch of navy. These tones supported the architectural finishes
of the home- primarily wood, stone, and textured paint- and reflected the
overall design grammar of the space: calm, open, and modern.

Patterns were minimal and contemporary-more
about adding a layer of texture than making a visual statement. The rugs didn’t
seek attention; they added balance, warmth, and a soft grounding for the
furniture above them.

The Collaboration

What made the process seamless was the
alignment between the client’s vision and Obeetee’s design sensibilities.
Rayika knew what she liked, which helped us narrow down options quickly. But
more than that, she trusted the team’s inputs-whether it was scaling down a
size for a specific room or suggesting a wool-silk blend for a better finish.

From selection to installation, the
project moved swiftly, with regular check-ins and clear communication at every
step.

Outcome

The final result was a home that felt
complete. The rugs settled in quietly, doing their job with elegance and ease.
They added softness where it was needed, grounded spaces without overwhelming
them, and elevated the overall material palette of the home.

For Obeetee, this project reaffirmed
the power of design, and how strong client collaboration paired with purposeful
styling can create something timeless.
