How Custom Rugs tell a story

How Custom Rugs tell a story

In a world ruled by mass-produced goods, owning something that is one of a kind, custom-made, or a limited edition reveals your passion and emotions. Getting a custom accent is a journey. A journey that might have started in your childhood, a teaching embedded within your heart by your forefathers, or maybe something at random that just fascinated you a while ago. From the customers’ perspective, it's a part of their life, something that inspires them, brought to reality through a custom accent. As per the brand, it's the essence that they add to the outcome. The realism that not only moves the customer but also brings the vision to life. Anything handmade can be customized. Technically, everything that is handmade is indeed customised. While machine-made items are produced with set algorithms, hand-made pieces will always have a different human error, irrespective of the same design, shape, or style.

How Custom Rugs tell a story

In the carpet industry, customization is a driving element. Since the very 1st carpet that was ever created in the world, carpets have been a source of storytelling. The oldest rug tells about the strength that a finely crafted carpet holds; rugs from the Mughal era tell about the life of the royal courts, and the ones made during the colonial period help us understand the lives that our people lived. Carpets like these have a huge impact. Not just on the owner, but to the viewer, and in the area where it is placed. It adds definition and brings out the personality that the space never had.

Let us make you understand this by an example. The Parliament of India is one of the unique structures in the world. The home of the biggest democracy deserves an accent that not only outshines other visuals but also embeds the country’s rich heritage, cultures, and traditions. It was 2020 when we were chosen to handcraft rugs for the upper and lower houses. In total, over 314 custom-made rugs were crafted. Over 900 weavers had invested 10 Lakh man hours to tie over 600 million knots to make this project possible.

The Lok Sabha chambers had green carpets. It was decided that the color would be incorporated into the new flooring as well. The primary shade was inspired by Indian agave, and the other shades were taken from the national bird. The entire canvas embraced the repetitive peacock feather pattern, reflecting the inspiration and telling a story of tradition that is deeply rooted within the country. With 120 knots per square inch, the hand-knotted rug gave a calm appeal to a working environment.

The Rajya Sabha was floored in Red. While the Lok Sabha embraced the national bird feathers on the carpet, the set for the upper house was designed seeking inspiration from the national flower- the Lotus. The overall design added balance to the visuals in the room and soothed the work atmosphere. The Lotus flower is deeply rooted in our country’s traditions and customs.

From inspiration to the finished piece, this custom project tells a tale, a tale of our country, our traditions, and customs.
